Note

 

Change the expectations of students, teachers and parents to include the idea that all Burleson high school graduates will have the opportunity to attain some form of higher education.


To provide every graduate from the City of Burleson with the opportunity to attend post-secondary education with up to a 100% tuition and fees scholarship for term(s)and school(s)  to be determined annually.


All students are required to submit a Burleson Opportunity Fund application.  The application is a simple, online form that is completed by the appropriate due date during the student’s graduating year.  Application can be submitted online @ www.BurlesonOppFund.com.

The application is used only to determine interest and eligibility in the scholarship.  Awards are not based on academic or financial merit.  Applications are to be submitted to the Burleson Opportunity Fund Scholarship Committee by the indicated due date.


Once applications have been received, students who are eligible for the funds will be notified.  Dependent on the availability of funds and eligibility, a letter of acceptance and other documents will be mailed/ emailed to the student.  Student contact information must always be up-to-date through their online account created during the original application process.  All deadlines, including the application deadline, must be met in order to maintain eligibility for the scholarship.

Eligibility for the Burleson Opportunity Fund Scholarship

Students are eligible for the fund if they (1.) Meet all eligibility requirements (see below), & (2.)Meet all deadlines for submitting information.


(1.) All Burleson high school graduates which include:

Graduates from any BISD high schools

Burleson High School

Crossroads High School

 Centennial High School

Burleson residents graduating from an accredited private school

Burleson residents graduating from an accredited home school association

(2.) Be admitted to and enrolled in Hill College

(3.) Complete the FAFSA (Federal Application for Student Aid)

(4.) Submit all requested forms and documents to the appropriate person(s)


Once students are notified that they will receive the scholarship, they must fulfill the following scholarship requirements:

(1.) Enroll in 12-16 credit hours per regular semester (Fall and Spring)

(2.) Enroll in Student Orientation course during first semester (on-line or on-campus)

(3.) Earn credit in ALL enrolled courses

(4.) NOT drop more than one class during the entire life of the scholarship

(5.) Complete community service hours to be determined annually

(6.) Submit transcripts  at the end of the semester to appropriate personnel

(7.) Keep all contact information updated

(8.) Assist the BOF in promoting the program and mentoring future students


This scholarship program provides up to 32 credit hours of tuition and mandatory fees for post-secondary education at Hill College. The student must be a full time student taking 12 credit hours minimum and 16 credit hours maximum per semester. Students will also be required to participate in a Community Service Project and mentoring.

All funds will be paid directly to the educational institution.  Any refunds due to the scholarship will be paid directly to The Burleson Opportunity Fund.


No exceptions to the above requirements will be allowed unless approved by The Burleson Opportunity Fund Board, the Scholarship Committee, or designee thereof.


The Burleson Opportunity Fund Board of Directors is governed by the approved bylaws.


The Scholarship Committee which typically consists of a staff member from each of the following:

Burleson Independent School District (“BOF Coordinator”)

City of Burleson

Hill College
